Privacy Policy

Effective date: 13 September 2026

1. Who we are

Scrappie is owned and operated by Vanessa Banfield ("we", "us", "our"). This policy explains what personal data we collect when you use Scrappie, why, and what rights you have over it. Contact us at whatsinthef@gmail.com with any questions.

2. What data we collect

When you sign up and use the app, we collect:

  • Account information: your first name, email address and password (stored securely, not in plain text)
  • App content: the items, quantities, categories, and notes you add about your fridge, cupboard, and freezer contents
  • Usage data: basic information about how you use the app, such as which features you interact with, to help us improve it
  • Technical data: device/browser type and IP address, collected automatically for security and to keep the app running properly
  • Optional permissions you choose to turn on: camera access (to photograph receipts and labels) and approximate location (to compare nearby supermarket prices)

We do not knowingly collect any special category data (such as health or financial information) through the app.

3. How we use your data

  • To create and manage your account
  • To provide the app's core features (tracking your fridge contents, reminders, notifications)
  • To maintain the security and proper functioning of the app
  • To understand how the app is used, so we can improve it
  • To contact you about important changes to the app or these policies
  • To send you occasional product news and tips, only if you have given marketing consent — you can withdraw it at any time in settings

We do not sell your personal data. We do not use your data for advertising.

4. Where your data is stored

Scrappie is built using Lovable and stores data through Lovable Cloud, its managed database and authentication service. Your account and app data are held in that infrastructure under industry-standard security practices. As the app grows, this section will be updated if our infrastructure changes.

5. Legal basis for processing (UK GDPR)

  • Performance of a contract — to provide the app's features to you as a registered user
  • Legitimate interests — to keep the app secure and to improve it
  • Consent — where we ask for it specifically, such as marketing emails, notifications, camera and location access

6. Data sharing

We do not share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes. We may share data with service providers who help us run the app (such as our hosting, database and authentication provider), under their own data protection obligations. We may also disclose data if required to by law.

7. Data retention

We keep your account and app data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data within a reasonable period, except where we're required to retain it for legal reasons.

8. Your rights

Under UK GDPR, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate data
  • Request deletion of your data
  • Object to or restrict certain processing
  • Request a copy of your data in a portable format

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at whatsinthef@gmail.com. You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) if you believe your data has been mishandled.

9. Children's privacy

Scrappie is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.

10. Security

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your data, including relying on our provider's security infrastructure for authentication and storage. However, no system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

11. Future changes

As Scrappie grows — for example, if we introduce paid features, new third-party tools, or take on investors or collaborators — this Privacy Policy will be updated to reflect any changes in how your data is handled. We will notify users of material changes.

12. Contact us

If you have questions about this policy or how your data is handled, contact us at whatsinthef@gmail.com. You can also read our Terms of Service.
